Welkin's gift guide for those who are grieving

Welkin's gift guide for those who are grieving

Tis’ the season for gift guide publications and what better than a guide for the most difficult gift to give — a gift for those who are grieving. Giving gifts is my love language and I'm the biggest fan of gift guides so I figured this holiday season I would curate some of my favorite gifts I have given and/or received during times of grief to make the tough times a little easier.

1. CUSTOMIZED KEEPSAKE BEAR

The first mention on this list is one I was personally gifted following the death of my father and is something I still cherish so much. It is a customized teddy bear made of your loved ones clothing. Mine is made of my father’s blue shirts that filled my memories most along with a custom embroidered message from postcards he sent me. This is the perfect gift for those looking for something comforting to remember their loved one. There are plenty of Etsy sellers who provide this product but I selected one who has an offering similar to the bear I was gifted.

2. Plants

The Sill's plants are my go-to gift for those in my life who have experienced the loss of a loved one. While everyone typically sends flowers, I personally love the idea of sending a plant. There is something so special about gifting something that will live on as a reminder of their loved one who is no longer with us. There isn’t any specific one I choose for every gift, I like to personalize it by choosing the plant I feel reflects the person and their loved one most.

3. Beyond Words Co. Gift Boxes

Beyond Words Co. provides the most elegant and comforting gift boxes on the market, making them the exemplary sympathy gift. They have a variety of products  in a range price points so whether you’re looking for a gift for a coworker, friend, family member, their handpicked selection will certainly bring solace to your loved one during life’s most difficult time

4. In Loving Memory Candle

KindredFires candles are a great gift for those looking for something small yet sentimental. These handmade soy wax candles are such a thoughtful way to remember and honor a loved one’s life. It’s said that a light burning in remembrance signifies that their memory still lives on and burns bright. This gift signifies remembrance and provides a ritual to pay tribute to their loved one who passed away.

5. Books about Grief

It's common to find comfort in reading a good book during difficult times, especially one you feel is similar to the experience you are currently going through, making books about grief a small but impactful gift for those in your life who are grieving. Two that are highly rated and some of my personal favorites are A Grief Observed and How To Go On Living When Someone You Love Dies

If there are any gifts you personally love and feel we are missing on our list, feel free to send us a message at hello@welkinmemorials.com, we would love to hear about them!
